What Is SaveDataFiler?
SaveDataFiler allows users to back up Nintendo 3DS games from a CIA version of the game and restore on the same 3DS or a different 3DS.
SaveDataFiler can also be used to transfer your saved game from a CIA version of the game to an actual cartridge version of the game.
How To Use Savedatafiler?
Download the following three files
Now, put the “BigBlueMenu.3DS” file in the Micro SD card and put both the CIA files in the SD card of your 3DS. Next, boot up the 3DS and go into gateway mode. Once in “emuNAND”, press select to load the ROMS. Load the ROM called “Title Manager” and launch it. Shift to the second column (SDMC) and locate the CIA files that you had placed on the SD card. You need to press “A” to install these CIA files.
Then, press the “HOME” button and you will get to unwrap two things. Once unwrapped, launch the ROM you would like to back up for the save (by pressing “SELECT”). Once ROM loads, make sure you don’t launch the game. Instead, launch the “savedatafiler.CIA”. You will see three columns; but you only need the first and the third.
Now, to “export” a save, first confirm that the game is loaded, and then under the “user” column, it will say “CTR Card”. That is the game you loaded. Now, press “Y” to export. To import a save, under the “SD” Column, it will say the exported save name. Find the one you want to import and press “A”.
Repeat the above steps. Launch “savedatafiler” and under the first column (USER), locate the .CIA save. Once you’ve located the save, same rules apply:
“Y” is for exporting.
Press “A” for importing again.
Once you find the save location (this time for importing), it will be in the “SD” Column.
To make life simpler, we have collated the following piece of information for you:
- Game saves are under ‘user’ (according to their title).
- You can find the serial and Title ID of your game on this website:http://www.3dsdb.com/. Then find that same serial in SaveDataFiler.cia.
- Game exterior data is under “ext”, you find them in the same way.
- SD is the stuff that you have backed up to your SD card through SaveDataFiler.
- So, you can import or extract the saves, as and when you desire.
Every save is linked to the header of the ROM. Even if there is no header, it’s just linked to a non-existing header. When extracting the save with savedatafiler, what you get is raw data that isn’t linked to anything and isn’t encrypted that way anymore. That’s why you are able to import it to any other save even if it’s created with a ROM with a different header.
