PS4 is hands down a mind boggling experience for gamers. It has been embedded with tons of features and compatibilities. One of them is remote play. PS4 gives its users the choice to control the PS4 from their Mac or Windows machine. Basically, this gives the users an easier access to the PS4 from separate devices like Mac/Windows/Tablet/Smartphone. Using the PS4 remote play, users can even transfer their saved games from one device to another, taking the utility to another level. However, all these come at the cost of high-speed internet, which becomes a core foundation of the PS4 remote play.
What is Remote Play?
Remote Play enables PS4 enthusiasts to play and stream PlayStation 4 games directly from your PS4 to a Windows PC. In other words, PS4 Remote Play is a handy tool to cast everything from your PlayStation on to any screen in your house – including your tablet, smartphone, TV or any type of monitor – so long as you can connect these devices to a Wi-Fi network.
What is needed to use Remote Play?
- PlayStation 4
- USB Cable
- Dual-Shock 4 controller
- Internet connection with upload and download speeds of at least 5 Mbps (12 Mbps recommended)
- PlayStation Network Account
Set up your PC or Mac for Remote Play
Install Remote Play on a compatible Windows PC or download a zipped version and unzip it. Copy the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony onto a USB drive or email it to yourself. Once the folder is on the PC, copy it back to Program Files (x86).
There is also a shortcut available for this:
· Create a shortcut for Remote Play on your desktop by right clicking RemotePlay.exe.
· Select “Create shortcut here”.
· Move the shortcut to your desktop.
Now, if you try to run Remote Play it will ask you to sign in, but the window will be a white page. To resolve this, you need to have Internet Explorer 11 installed on your PC. The reason behind this is – the sign in window uses an embedding version of IE, but any IE that is below version 11 can’t display the login page correctly. Once IE 11 is installed, (restart if you need to) enjoy your remote PS4 access!
How To Use PS4 Remote Play?
- Turn on the PS4 and start the reset mode.
- Connect a controller and pair it using the DUALSHOCK USB wireless adapter.
- Launch the PS4 Remote Play on your mac/windows machine and click on Start.
- Log in to your Sony Entertainment Network account.
There are some things you should remember while doing this. If you haven’t activated your PS4 system as the primary system, then you’ll have to pair your computer and the PS4 manually. Also, there are some games which inherently do not support the remote play concept so for those games, this won’t work.
